Abstract
The University of the Philippines pioneered the Revitalized General Education Program (RGEP) to allow students to choose from a menu of General Education courses. One such course is Biology 1– Contemporary Topics in Biology which deals with Reproductive Health and Sexually Transmitted Diseases. Instead of the conventional teaching methods using power point slides and video presentations, the teaching was supplemented with the creativity of students who suggested peer teaching through role play and quizzes. To ensure effective peer teaching, the course professors had to provide guidelines on acceptable behaviors pertaining to subjects like sexuality and STDs. This teaching model provided a highly interactive and engaging learning environment and encouraged teachers and students to be partners in the learning process.
