Abstract
The methods for textual statistics brought together in this work have grown out of the meeting of several disciplines, principally: text analysis, linguistics, discourse analysis, statistics, computer science and socioeconomic survey analysis. Our endeavor derives from ongoing work in two areas: an activity with various names (lexical statistics, quantitative linguistics, etc.) that for the past fifty years has linked statistical methods to text analysis, and multivariate statistics, one of the main currents of modern statistics.
