Abstract
The within-person factors that we conceptualized as common causes of multiple forms of violence are proposed to be fairly stable over time as well as generalized across contexts. To understand the origins of these factors, in this chapter, we draw on developmental theory and research to explore how experiences in childhood and adolescence can give rise to the cognitive, emotional, biological, and behavioral processes that give rise to violence.
