Abstract
I met Stueckelberg as a student in Lausanne more than fifty years ago. I was captivated by his lectures and became his assistant in 1953 until 1957. We wrote a few papers together. This talk is based on my recollections of that time and on what I have heard and read about Stueckelberg (see Wenger [1986]). My aim is to give you an idea of the context of Stueckelberg’s work and life in Geneva and Lausanne.1
