Abstract
In terminal care the emphasis moves from prolongation of life and comfort to just comfort. This shift becomes appropriate when anticancer treatment fails to prevent tumour progression. Frequently there is a period of transition rather than an abrupt change of direction in management. This is particularly true of certain cancers, such as breast cancer, in which yet another partial remission may be induced by further hormonal manipulation.
