It’s About Time

Abstract

In this chapter, we provide the motivations and purpose of the book. We briefly discuss the role of time in physics, engineering, and computer science. We argue the importance of abstraction in dealing with time in computing devices and systems. In this view, we present and explain the structure of the book and claim its usefulness for the readers who wish to acquire a deep understanding of the dynamics of computer-based systems and gain a critical thinking in evaluating and comparing time models and selecting the ones that best satisfy specific needs.
