Abstract

Many of the algorithms set out in this book are provided for in readily accessible software packages. Indeed, the combination of the availability of such software and the complicated algorithms needed in modern high-precision work is starting to render obsolete some parts of the traditional yearbooks such as the Astronomical Almanac. This is further compounded by the wide availability of computer-controlled telescopes, which perform onerous calculations on the fly that were a daily chore for observers in former times.
