Abstract

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of mortality and an important economic factor in western societies (Anderson et al. 1991). While the known risk factors are readily identifiable by a combination of physical exam, laboratory analysis and patient history, magnetic resonance (MR) imaging theoretically offers a unique opportunity to assess what damage if any has already been inflicted onto the cardiovascular system before the disease becomes symptomatic.
