Noninfectious Inflammatory Small Airways Diseases

Summary

Multiple noninfectious diseases should be considered in the differential diagnosis of noninfectious small airways diseases. Diffuse panbronchiolitis, most commonly seen in Asian individuals, shows typical features of inflammatory bronchiolitis, with tree in bud pattern, bronchiolectasis, and associated bronchiolectasis and sinusitis. Follicular bronchiolitis is typically seen in Sjögren’s syndrome or immunodeficiency. Inflammatory bronchiolitis may be seen after acute inhalation injury, with chronic exposure to burning biomass fuels, and in pneumoconioses. CT features of inflammatory bronchiolitis may also be found with diffuse lung disease such as hypersensitivity pneumonitis, sarcoidosis, or Langerhans histiocytosis, and with collagen vascular disease or inflammatory bowel disease.
