Abstract

Minimally invasive video-assisted thyroidectomy (MIVAT) was described in 1999. Largely due to its reproducibility, it has now become one of the most widespread minimally invasive thyroidectomy techniques throughout the world. This technique is not appropriate for every patient undergoing thyroid surgery but has limited and precise indications, mainly in terms of size of the thyroid gland and nature of the thyroid disease. Patients undergoing MIVAT reap the benefits of a minimally invasive approach through the smallest cervical incision possible.
