Abstract

Pain in the chest is one of the most frequent presenting symptoms in old age and commonly gives rise to considerable concern as the patient rightly or wrongly believes it to represent serious heart disease. A methodological approach to the problem might be by systems, but it is often simpler to use a clinico-anatomical strategy to arrive at a differential diagnosis. Such an approach allows one to classify chest pain as either central or lateral.
