The cerebellum forms the tectum of the medulla and pons. It lies in the posterior cranial fossa under the tentorium of the dura. It is a layered cortical region and projects onto subcortical nuclei that, in turn, project onto the brain stem, spinal cord, and diencephalon. It functions as an unconscious center for coordination of motor movements. It is commonly affected by drugs and vascular and other pathological lesions.
