Abstract
Gliomas can arise in any part of the brain. The origins of these tumors are unknown, but at least one hypothesis supports a localized stem cell compartmental derivation with the spread of clonogenic tumor cells along cortical pathways and localization to regions of high growth factor activity. Brainstem gliomas account for 15 % of pediatric cases but are uncommon in adults (Gondi et al. 2013).
