Abstract

The knowledge and resource requirements of one-of-a-kind industry call for the creation of cooperation networks and VOs. The paper describes the characteristics of VOs in one-of-a-kind manufacturing based on industrial cases in recent research projects. The inter-organizational distribution and mutual dependencies of the activities as well as the complexity of one-of-a-kind products requires efficient information management and VO coordination. Lately, the product lifecycle view has become very important for one-of-a-kind manufacturers.
