Engineering: Building Heritage and Conservation Studies

The conservation and maintenance of building heritage are considered fundamental issues in the life of modern societies. Besides their intrinsic historical interest, the contribution of cultural heritage buildings is becoming more and more relevant to the economy of the countries, in a context where tourism and leisure are strategic industries. The need for preserving heritage buildings is thus not only a cultural requirement, but also an economical and developmental demand. Research dissemination vehicles play a fundamental role in this context, and academic journals are fundamental actors in this process by controlling, gathering, disseminating research. To a large extent, high-quality journals pave the way to better research and, in consequence of that, to wealthier and more sustainable societies. To do so, however, academic journals must be able to attract high-quality research, in a delicate balance between the over-specialization and the masses. The Topical Collection intends to establish as a building-centred alternative where research topics of HERITAGE and CONSERVATION are discussed between research scientists, practitioners and decision-makers in building-related fields.
