Key Challenges in Digitalisation and Data Usage for Maritime Business and Operations

The objective of this special issue is to further specify the theme of digitalization and of use of data in shipping. Both the usage of data and further digitalization are seen as key drivers for further improvements in the maritime and port industry. These improvements can be either at an operational (i.e. port call process), tactical (i.e. route optimization), or strategic (i.e. competitiveness) level, All the papers of this SI will be centred around these different levels. The Special Issue will focus on gathering a corpus of articles that were presented at the WCTRS 2023 in the SIGA2 (maritime and ports) track.

Editors

  • Jeroen Pruyn

Jeroen Pruyn started working for the TUDelft straight after graduation (2003), first as a researcher, later as an Assistant Professor and now as an Associate Professor. His focus has been always been on the logistic and economic impacts on technology in the maritime sector. Since 2012 the sustainable aspect has played a major role in this as well, leading to a focus on future ready and flexible designs. As design is the key to a better future, it should already deal with the potential of innovations, the demolition of the vessel and one or more lifetime refits. Especially when considering a transition to new fuels. J.F.J.Pruyn@tudelft.nl
