Improvement of kidney transplantation

Kidney transplantation prolongs life expectancy and may provide a better quality of life compared to dialysis. However, the short supply of kidneys may lead to increased morbidity and mortality for patients on the waiting list for transplantation. The challenges for future years are to improve the availability of organs for transplantation, to enable kidney transplantation in patients with relevant secondary diagnosis and to reduce transplant risks. This topical collection provides a forum for clinical experts to report data on a broad spectrum of hot topics in kidney transplantation.
