Subjective Well-Being and Transgender and Gender-Nonconforming Children: Multidisciplinary perspectives

In recent years it is possible to see a significant increase in reports of children and adolescents not accepting the sex assigned at their birth, questioning it, rejecting it or experiencing it differently. Discomfort with bodies and social roles is reported by adolescents on a scale that exceeds previous statistics. This Special Issue aims to facilitate further understanding of transgender and gender-nonconforming children and youth’s subjective well-being and their social, emotional, and mental health needs from multidisciplinary perspectives.

Keywords: well-being, mental health, gender-nonconforming, children, transgender

We are particularly interested in material on such topics as:

- Well-being of trans and gender-nonconforming children and their education, social and emotional needs.

- Indicators of the well-being of gender-nonconforming children and how the social environment can be changed to improve the psychological well-being of these children.

- Effective intervention

Articles reviewing the recent, relevant literature on those issues are welcome, as well as those based on research conducted using a range of methodologies or of differing theoretical perspectives. Also, those presenting differing perspectives on the issues, examining challenges to effective intervention, or considering prospects for developing theories or conducting research are welcome.
