Topical Collection for EurSafe2021 Conference in the Journal of Agricultural and Environmental Ethics

Reflecting upon the ethical and social implications of climate change for food security is vital for informed decision-making within research and public policy. Discussing questions of potential conflicts and synergies between food security and climate action from an ethical perspective is a central step in providing solutions to these challenges. This topical collection is contributing to this task by offering in-depth deliberation on key concerns of ethics and justice for food security that are resulting from climate change.

The core areas of my work investigate conceptual and normative issues of justice in climate action and environmental protection, technological innovation for sustainability, and the fair differentiation of responsibilities in environmental practice and most recently food systems. My key interest concerns the conceptual conflicts between the global and intergenerational dimensions of these challenges and the local and temporal understanding and differentiations of responsibilities between relevant agents. Since August 2019 I am PhD student and research assistant at the University of Fribourg Environmental Sciences and Humanities Institute. In my PhD project "Ethics in Governing Negative Emission Technologies" I address questions of governance for negative emission technologies and their implications for individual moral responsibility. Besides this focus on climate ethics, I am involved in research projects on food security, digital ethics, and biodiversity.
