Meteorological Products of Geo-KOMPSAT-2A (GK-2A) satellite

National Meteorological Satellite Center of Korea Meteorological Administration (NMSC/KMA) launched successfully the second geostationary meteorological satellite, Geo-KOMPSAT-2A (GK-2A) on 5 December 2018. GK-2A has a new generation of geostationary imaging radiometer named Advanced Meteorological Imager (AMI) which is like sensor equipped on Himawari-8/9 and GOES-16/17 satellites. GK-2A/AMI will provide high spatio-temporal measurements through 16 channels to observe the Earth’s weather, climate and environment. In order to implement these applications, NMSC has developed retrieval algorithms which can derive meteorological products in cooperation with domestic academia and Korean Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) since 2014. These products are related with the Earth surface, atmosphere, cloud, aerosol and radiation information as well as scene analysis. We hereby invite authors to submit original and review articles that will stimulate the continuing efforts for the progress of scientific retrievals using meteorological satellite data. This special issue would focus the original research on the physical and statistical retrieval methods and the performance evaluations of GK-2A meteorological products.
