Abstract
The forensic physician will, in all probability, have to deal with a death in police custody at some point in his or her areer. This chapter aims to provide a broad basis for the understanding of the disease processes and the mechanisms that may lead to death and also to provide some understanding of the current thinking behind deaths associated with restraint.
