Abstract
This paper examines and describes students’ learning of sustainable development in De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, Philippines. As part of their Environmental Chemistry course, students engaged in projects that will help reduce global warming. The two projects highlighted are tree-planting and energy conservation. Students would help reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere by planting seeds into small bags to develop into seedlings. Seedlings would then be transplanted to selected sites. Students also learned the ecological and economic importance of the species they planted. The goal of the tree-planting project: Green for LIFE: One Million Trees and Beyond is to plant and maintain one million trees by the year 2011. Energy conservation is another project students carried out in their own households. Students monitored their home electricity consumption at the start of school term and recorded a list of appliances which consumed electricity. Thereafter, they involved and encouraged other members of their households to conserve electricity.
