Abstract
No conversation about being a first year teacher would be complete without including classroom management. It is what new teachers ask for help with most. It is the main reason that New York City teachers leave teaching altogether. I have always been comfortable and friendly around kids of all ages. I know the subject matter and the most contemporary classroom strategies, both in physics and in general. I have a well developed model of how students learn. I speak comfortably about topics of interest to teenagers, with a reasonably thick New York accent to boot. Therefore, despite the dire warnings, I started at UHS confident that I would be able to handle classroom management. I was wrong.
