Abstract
As HIV prevalence continues to rise in South Africa more and more private companies are seeing a need to address HIV and AIDS in the workplace. These initiatives are driven by economic necessity as the HIV prevalence rate climbs amongst the key economically active age group of 15-49 year olds. Businesses that have a high number of HIV-positive employees can expect reduced productivity, a rise in workplace-accidents and absenteeism, increased operating costs, a loss of trained and experienced workers, decreased staff morale and depressed profits.
