Abstract

The goal of this chapter is to explore – at a certain level of abstraction – the public services components of digital and virtual libraries, with an emphasis on the experiences, needs, and expectations of the end-users, especially how the proliferation of personal, portable computing appliances for information, communication, and entertainment has changed how people interact with and think about these fundamental human activities.
