Abstract
In chapter 2, we set forth the economic base model and the accounts that accompany it. In the next three chapters, we developed the single-industry model further. To develop a usable regional model, we now expand our purview and consider multiple-industry models. In this chapter, we return to chapter 2 and build on the accounts and models in that chapter in order to develop a rudimentary regional input-output model. In chapter 7, we draw upon this chapter, as well as chapter 3, to specify a full forecasting and simulation model.

In areas where items are transshipped, the items that come in simply to be shipped out again are excluded from both M and XFG.
The computer algorithms for larger input-output models also usually use this approach.
The value added multiplier is often used to refer to the total change in value added divided by the direct change in value added. In this case, under this definition, the value-added multiplier for nonmanufacturing (industry 2) would be 1.03 + .613(from equeation 6–74)=1.68, and it would be. 816 +.388 (from equation 6–73)=2.10 for manufacturing (industry 1).
