Abstract

Pressure on higher education institutions has increased in many ways over the last decades: increased number of students, new kinds of students (part time students, mature students etc.), increased political and public focus on educational quality and increased competition between higher education institutions for the students. While struggling with all this, one of the solutions has been the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). As Diana Ravitch notes: “This (heavy investments in educational technology, author’s note) smells suspiciously like the latest miracle cure” (Forbes; New York; 1998).
