Abstract

Laboratory cultures of Carpoglyphus lactis (L.) were started with mites that had been collected from beehive debris and stored fruit products. Honey was supplied as food for the mite rearings. Results show that honey allows complete development and reproduction of this mite species, which may explain the frequent presence of this mite in honey as biological contaminant.
