Abstract

The mosaic pattern is characteristic of many plant communities, but the cause of its formation are not fully understood (Whittaker and Levin 1977, Belsky 1986). The opinion that investigations into the biology of populations contribute to a better understanding of the factors responsible for the mosaic pattern of plant communities has been confirmed in many papers (Grubb 1977, Grime 1979, Stenseth 1980, Giller, 1984, Faliński 1986).
