Abstract

Human beings in previous phases of the evolutionary ascent — an ascent if measured by the yardstick of the most recently acquired creative/inventive proficiencies — attempted by rudimentary means to adopt to the conundrum of biophysical conditions by just refashioning segment by segment the available groundwork of nature and then submitting to natural conditions. At the present stage of the unfolding of their virtuali- ties, they have become so powerful that Descartes’ dream has come to pass and we are the “masters of nature.” Our powers may now penetrate even the innermost human proficiency of generation and manipulate and refashion to a great degree the transmission of life’s specifics ac- cording to selective decisions.
