Part of the book series: Outline Studies in Ecology ((OSE))

Abstract

This book attempts to summarize what we know about insect-plant relationships without becoming too involved with untestable hypotheses. It is not intended to be comprehensive and we have deliberately excluded discussion of aquatic organisms and fungi. Our definition of insect herbivores is intentionally broad. It includes all insects which feed on plants, although we have emphasized those which feed primarily on the photosynthetic tissues. Some reference is made to seed predation but pollination ecology is excluded.
