The chapter reviews terms of sustainability and ecologically sustainable development (ESD). The components of sustainability within two models, including social/cultural, economic and environmental are examined. Finally, the chapter outlines the authors’ sustainable communities framework (SCF) and its potential application. The chapter ends by outlining what the reader will find in each chapter of the book.
