New Strategies to Advance Pre/Diabetes Care: Integrative Approach by PPPM

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a lifelong progressive disease with high morbidity and mortality worldwide, in particular due to severe complications secondary to metabolic disorders. Increasing evidence indicates that diabetic patients are highly predisposed to a spectrum of oncologic diseases. Understanding of molecular pathomechanisms of the cancer-provocation in DM is of great importance for the properly organised diabetes care. This chapter focuses on the epidemiology and cancer aetiology in DM and provides expert recommendations for the targeted prevention in the diabetic patient cohort.
