Abstract

Normally, the course of equilibrium curves in TX phase diagrams is such that along the curve, on increasing temperature, dX/dT does not go through zero, changing its sign. Occasionally, equilibrium curves display a retrograde behaviour, in that, on increasing temperature, the value of the composition variable, X, passes through a maximum or a minimum.
