Abstract
Abstract The last 500 years have seen an education paradigm where learning was focused on the technology of the printed books, and where reading and writing and the memorization of facts distinguished academic people from less academic people. In our current learning environment, knowledge is increasing exponentially, and it is impossible to know how the essential knowledge base will change in the coming decades. In the last few years, a new education paradigm has become available. This paradigm focuses on the ability and understanding of how to learn. The very foundations of our education systems are collapsing under the weight of irrelevancy. So what does this new paradigm look like? How is it different? Who will make the changes necessary to adopt it? These are important questions as countries make the decision to adopt the new learning and teaching paradigm of the 21st century.
