Abstract
The approach to the modal syllogistic presented in these pages has been guided by the need for a precise way to represent Aristotle’s own explanations and proofs while at the same time keeping the modern technical devices to a minimum and as transparent as possible. For these reasons I prefer to use the lower predicate calculus (LPC) to represent Aristotle’s propositions rather than the kinds of notation usually encountered in discussions of Aristotle’s logic.
