Abstract
Leprosy can produce a wide spectrum of nerve abnormalities on ultrasound and magnetic resonance (MR) imaging due to inflammatory and degenerative changes, acute reactional states, and entrapment syndromes. The onset of active reversal reactions can be indicated by endoneural color flow signals as well as by increased T2 signal and Gd enhancement. These signs seem to suggest rapid progression of nerve damage and poor prognosis unless antireaction treatment with steroids is started. Ultrasound and MR imaging can correlate follow-up findings with response to antireaction therapy.
