Riassunto

Con il termine di adroterapia si intende l’impiego di adroni, cioè di particelle formate da quark, legate fra loro da forze nucleari che, opportunamente accelerate, vengono impiegate nella cura di patologie neoplastiche. Si tratta dunque di una forma particolare di radioterapia che sfrutta le proprietà fisiche e biologiche di particelle dotate di carica (protoni e ioni) o senza carica (neutroni) per ottenere ionizzazioni delle molecole presenti nelle cellule del tessuto tumorale con l’obiettivo di portare a morte le cellule tumorali stesse e, di conseguenza, ottenere il controllo della malattia tumorale.
