Riassunto

La PET (Positron Emission Tomography) è una tecnica di imaging tomografico per la quale è stato coniato il termine di metabolic imaging, volto a sottolineare il suo peculiare razionale diagnostico, basato sull’identificazione e caratterizzazione di un tumore mediante l’impiego di specifici radiofarmaci idonei a evidenziare le differenze metaboliche esistenti tra questo e i tessuti sani. Con la PET è infatti possibile studiare vari aspetti del metabolismo e della biologia di un tumore, quali la sua perfusione ematica e il suo metabolismo glucidico e aminoacidico; inoltre è consentito valutare la sua attività proliferat iva e la presenza di fenomeni ipossici nel contesto della massa tumorale [1].
