Vi sono poche altre malattie dermatologiche che possono vantare un numero di studi di buona qualità analogo a quello riscontrato per la dermatite atopica (DA). In effetti, la quantità di lavori biologici, clinici, ed, in misura minore, epidemiologici, pubblicati ogni anno su questa malattia è impressionante. Oltre 3000 studi relativi alla dermatite atopica possono essere identificati con una ricerca sulla banca dati Medline negli ultimi 5 anni. Di questi, circa 500 sono articoli che si riferiscono all’epidemiologia.
