Abstract
There is a great need for classification of the size and site of residual tumors deliberately left at the time of surgery for vestibular schwannoma and at regular follow-up by CT or MRI scan. We propose describing the size as the longest and perpendicular diameters of the residuum, e.g., 2 × 1 mm, 3 × 2 mm, 4 × 3 mm, or 10 × 5 mm. To describe the site of the residuum, we propose to distinguish between (a) in the fundus, (b) in the meatus, (c) around the porus, (d) along the extrameatal nerves, or (e) at the brainstem or the cerebellum. The measurement should also be performed during the first postoperative days by CT or MRI scan and should be repeated at regular intervals.
