Zusammenfassung

Das Nervensystem ist aus verschiedenen Zelltypen, Neuronen und Gliazellen aufgebaut. Diese Bausteine können entweder im intakten Gewebeverband im lebenden Tier oder aber isoliert mit Zellkulturtechniken untersucht werden. In vivo -Untersuchungen am lebenden Tier sind aufgrund der anatomischen und funktionellen Komplexität des Nervensystems auf zellulärer Ebene relativ schwer durchzuführen. Das Studium von funktionellen Einheiten, wie z. B. organotypischen Schnittkulturen, oder auch von Einzelzellen und Zelllinien ermöglicht zelluläre und molekulare Untersuchungen unter kontrollierten, genau definierten Bedingungen.
