Abstract
The scope of the commission for the renovation of Nestlé Headquarters included not only the architectural elements, but all of the building interiors as well. The reception area was completely redesigned, and custom furniture was created for the executive suite and reception area, the administrative offices, public spaces of the sixth floor, and offices throughout the building. Just inside the main entrance, a reception desk plays against the see-through transparency of the ground floor as a dark line against a glass panel in which the Nestlé logo is etched in a pattern designed by artists Philip Baldwin, Monica Guggisberg, and Paolo Ferro. The reception desk itself, in Wenge wood, hovers mysteriously over a softly reflective base of matte-finished aluminum panels. It appears to “float,” supported only by a laminated translucent glass beam. The workspace behind the desk is finished in black leather. For the office spaces, a modular furnishing system was developed in collaboration with dai AG, and produced by Italian manufacturer Unifor Spa. Sycamore maple was used in conjunction with colored fabric and bronze-finished aluminum accents.
