Abstract
An individual’s recovery from a burn includes many aspects. One of which is their psychological healing. Emotional well-being plays an important role in one’s physical recovery [108]. Some burn victims do not experience any negative psychological reactions while others experience numerous issues. These negative reactions can vary from short-term to long and from mild to debilitating. Psychological reaction to trauma can interfere with one’s medical recovery [55]. This can be a problem during the recovery of an injury as critical as a burn. Such intrusive symptoms could interfere with a patient’s ability to participate in necessary medical cares (e. g. lying still so as not to tear a graft, bathing with water). Management of these symptoms would allow the individual to focus more exclusively on his/her medical needs. There are numerous psychiatric disorders which need to be distinguished to determine the most appropriate treatment. Typical maladaptive behaviors can include the signs and symptoms of anxiety and/or depression.
