Abstract
Mediated Environments addresses the problem that today society interprets our environment through the very conditioned and constructed representations of mainstream media and not in a transdisciplinary way with the help of artists, architects, filmmakers, cultural theorists and scientists. Inside most urban centres of the developed world, these fabricators and discoverers know that our lives are also mediated by the technologies that surround our everyday existence and affect our environments. In fact our very bodies are being shifted by different analogue, digital and artificial discoveries, and scientific translations of social and ethical realities that surround us. The writers in this book all are attempting to cross-correlate media from different disciplines and reconstruct it in relation to urban technology, sociology and scientific method. They see forms of film, activist and performance documentary as a key to a high level of reflective criticism, one that uses media as a new form of empowerment and communication about the pressing issues of urban life.
