Zusammenfassung

Diabetes mellitus („Zuckerkrankheit″) gilt als eine Modellerkrankung in der Verhaltensmedizin, da das Zusammenspiel von physiologischen Faktoren, medizinischer Behandlung und behavioralen wie psychologischen Faktoren für Behandlungserfolg und Prognose entscheidend ist. In diesem Kapitel wird ausgehend von einer Darstellung der Pathophysiologie der häufigsten Diabetesformen, das Rational der Diabetestherapie dargestellt, unter besonderer Berücksichtigung der Rolle des Selbstbehandlungsverhaltens von Menschen mit Diabetes und dem Stellenwert psychosozialer und verhaltensmedizinischer Angebote für die Behandlung. Exemplarisch wird auf die verhaltensmedizinische Behandlung einer gestörten Unterzuckerungswahrnehmung bei Typ-1-Diabetes sowie auf den Bereich der Prävention des Typ-2-Diabetes durch Lebensstilveränderungen eingegangen, der unter Public-Health-Gesichtspunkten besonders bedeutsam ist.
