Abstract

The pathology of nonneoplastic conditions of the thymus and/or mediastinum includes thymic and mediastinal or cervical cysts as well as the various forms of thymic hyperplasia (see Sect. 7.4), giant lymph node hyperplasia [angiofollicular lymph node hyperplasia or Castleman–s disease (Castleman et al. 1956; Rosai and Levine 1976; Otto 1984)], inflammatory tumor-like conditions [granulomatous or sclerosing mediastinitis (Marchev-sky 1990)], endocrine lesions, and neurogenic and mesenchymal tumors and tumor-like conditions.
