Abstract

Myasthenia gravis (MG) is the best known organ-specific autoimmune disease; it is caused by a loss of functional acetylcholine receptors (AChR) at the neuromuscular junction, resulting in fatigable weakness of voluntary muscle. Diagnostically relevant serum antibodies against AChR are present in about 90% of patients with generalized MG.
