Lung Cancer

Part of the book series: Medical Radiology ((Med Radiol Radiat Oncol))

Abstract

Cancer of the lung is the most common and most lethal form of human cancer in the United States. During 1983, there will be approximately 139,000 new cases and about 121,000 deaths from lung cancer in the United States (Silverberg, 1984). The overall five-year survival rate with this disease is less than five percent, a resultant from the fact that at diagnosis the disease is usually advanced.
