Some Extrarenal Diseases Associated with Renal Stone or Nephrocalcinosis

  • Chapter
Renal Calculus

Abstract

The commonest extrarenal diseases which are frequently or occasionally associated with renal calculi and/or nephrocalcinosis are a group of disorders of varied etiology in which there is some disturbance of calcium metabolism. The bony skeleton is frequently involved, either in the form of single or multiple localized pathological changes or as a generalized skeletal rarefaction. The renal stone or nephrocalcinosis is a kind of by-product of diseases with metabolic overtones, though either the symptoms associated with the renal calculus and/or the nephrocalcinosis, or the manifestations of the skeletal abnormality may present first.
